Baseline Impact Assessment for Society for Family Health -SWIFT Project.

The SWIFT project addresses the dual goals of improving women’s access to Family Planning (FP) services and enhancing their entrepreneurship. By working with Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors (PPMVs), especially women in underserved communities, the project integrates healthcare delivery with economic growth initiatives to create sustainable outcomes. The project’s focus aligns with evidence highlighting the role of women’s economic participation in improving access to health services and reducing gender disparities in decision-making.

Through this baseline assessment, SFH aims to capture the current state of PPMVs’ capacity, business operations, and community-level dynamics influencing FP access. The assessment will also document the socio-economic and demographic conditions of target populations to inform the project’s design and implementation strategies. This comprehensive evaluation will establish a benchmark for the project’s key performance indicators (KPIs) and set the stage for evidence-based decision-making throughout the implementation period.

The primary purpose of the baseline impact assessment is to establish comprehensive benchmarks for the SWIFT project. These benchmarks will provide a foundation for evaluating progress, identifying challenges and assessing the overall impact of the project throughout its lifecycle.

R-DATS’ roles and responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive research design that aligns seamlessly with the project’s Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) framework (Annex), ensuring coherence with the overarching objectives of the SWIFT project.
  • Design robust quantitative and qualitative tools for data collection. These tools include structured questionnaires tailored to capture specific metrics, focus group discussion (FGD) guides that facilitate meaningful dialogue, and key informant interview (KII) protocols aimed at extracting valuable insights from stakeholders.
  • Conduct data collection, including quantitative and qualitative, utilizing digital tools such as Survey CTO for data collection to ensure efficiency, accuracy and real-time data capture.
  • Gather socio-economic and demographic data to contextualize the findings and provide a comprehensive baseline profile of the target communities.
  • Employing advanced statistical software (e.g. STATA) for quantitative data analysis.
  • Conduct thematic analysis of qualitative data to extract key themes and narratives that highlight barriers, opportunities and the lived experiences of female PPMVs.
  • Produce a comprehensive Baseline Survey Report.
